History and Future
Founded in 1909 as a German School serving German expatriates, it was expanded to include an English-speaking European School. Now the two departments are integrated and we are proud to be able to offer instruction in English, the lingua franca of the world; in German, the most widely spoken language in Europe; and Japanese, our host country language and gateway to other Asian cultures and languages. Our trilingual education prepares children for the multilingual world of the future.
Educational Scope
Our school caters to children from age 2 to 12. The curriculum begins with the Early Years Foundation stage where children start in the Pre-Kindergarten and then move on to Kindergarten (for children between the ages of 2 and 5 years). The next stage is the Primary School which comprises the Preschool and Elementary School (Grades 1 - 6). As an international and multilingual school we provide an excellent education within a charming family like atmosphere.

The school is a project of "environmentally symbiotic architecture" placing emphasis on a safe and healthy environment, eco-friendly energy saving features, and harmony with the surrounding townscape. The extensive use of wood creates a warm and comfortable interior in which our children thrive.
Prepared for the 21st century
The school curriculum is based on the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate Organisation and the German Thueringen curricula. The best of both approaches are combined to suit the needs of our students. The curriculum helps children reach their highest potential and prepares them for success in the 21st century, with all its opportunities and challenges.
Student-centered learning
Inquiry-based learning is at the heart of our school curriculum, It grows from the questions the children have. Placing students at the centre of their own education leads to the sustainable acquisition of knowledge and skills. At DESK the teaching of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills is emphasized to provide the students with a superb foundation for lifelong learning. In addition to traditional communicative practices, our students also acquire digital literacy. They are taught strategies to access, analyze, evaluate and responsibly use multimedia information
Multilingual Education and Holistic Learning Approach
Being able to express oneself in more than one language is an important asset. At DESK, all students learn in three languages: English, German and Japanese. Students choose their main language(s) of instruction, either the English program or the English/German bilingual program. Japanese courses are offered either as kokugo or as a foreign language. In order to realize the full potential of the students DESK adopts a holistic approach, which allows students to deepen their understanding of their emotions and their identity, their social relationships and the natural world. As each child is unique and has a different story, DESK provides a multi-sensory, flexible, challenging and resource-rich learning environment.

歴史と未来
神戸ドイツ学院ヨーロピアンスクール（DESK）は2～12歳のお子様の為の民間の非営利、男女共学のインターナショナルスクールです。またドイツ政府の助成も受けており、ドイツ国外のドイツの学校としても世界的なネットワークの一部として認められています。
1909年にドイツ人駐在員の為に設立され、次第に英語も話すヨーロッパの学校として規模を拡張していきました。国際バカロレアを導入しているIBスクールでもあります。現在は2つの部門が統合されており、世界的な共通言語である英語での指導が出来ることを誇りにしています。ドイツ語はヨーロッパ圏で最も広く話されてる言語；私たちのホスト国である日本語は他のアジアの文化や言語への玄関口となっています。トライリンガル教育はこども達の未来に向けた多言語世界のへの準備になります。
対象年齢
2～12歳までの児童を対象としています。カリキュラムは幼稚園に上がる前段階のステージのから用意されており、次の段階の幼稚園は（2～5歳）までとなります。次の段階では、幼児と小学生を含む（1－6年生）となります。

カリキュラムは国際バカロレアが定めるPrimary Years Programme (PYP)初等教育課程および、ドイツ·テューリゲン·カリキュラムを基礎としています。両方のカリキュラムの良い面を合わせたアプローチで生徒のニーズに合わせています。カリキュラムは子どもたちが、21世紀に成功する為に最も彼らにとって高い可能性に達することが出来る様、その全ての機会と課題を与えます。

DESKでは、リーディング、ライティング、スピーキング、リスニングの指導を強化することで秀でた生涯学習の基盤を築いています。昔ながらのコミュニケーションツールの実践と共にデジタル情報活用能力も加えて身に付けていきます。生徒は、責任を持ってマルチメディアを使用し、アクセス、分析、評価を行う為の指導を受けます。

1つ以上の言語で自己表現をすることが出来ることは重要な資産となります。DESKでは全ての生徒が以下、3つの言語を学びます：英語、ドイツ語、日本語
生徒はその中から、英語プログラムまたは英語/ドイツ語のバイリンガルプログラムのいずれかの主な言語を選択します。日本語コースは国語もしくは外国語のいずれかとして選択します。
DESKのホリスティック教育は自己アイデンティティや、社会性、自然界への理解を深め、自己の滞在能力を引出すように導きます。こども一人一人が独自のストーリーを持っており、DESKでは多感覚、柔軟性に富んだ、チャレンジングでやり甲斐のある豊富な学習環境を提供します。
