  Presented by: Susan Islascox and Jere Miller

  Susan Islascox holds a Masters and a postgraduate degree in education. Prior to coming to Japan, she worked at the University of Oregon in the Special Education Department. Currently, she serves as the high school learning support teacher at the American School in Tokyo (ASIJ), while previously, she was the school head at Tokyo International Learning Community She initially focused on students with severe and profound disabilities, and most recently she addressed students with dyslexia and ADHD.

  Jere Miller is a secondary education teacher with a specialty in reading skills. She is trained in Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, which teaches reading and comprehension skills for dyslexia. She is a learning support teacher at International Secondary School and reading support specialist at ASIJ.

  Come learn while practicing research-based strategies to maximize your son/daughter's efforts to succeed at school. We will cover research-based methods that address a range of areas that can be 'land mines' for students experiencing learning issues. These include:

  • Getting and staying organized
  • Reading to get the most out of the content
  • Visualizing for test preparation
  • Building AND RETAINING vocabulary
  • Critiquing test taking skills

  These skills are appropriate for upper elementary through high school aged students.
