Saint Michael's School of International Studies (SIS) was founded in 1954 in Burlington, Vermont.
It is one of the oldest and most well-respected English-language and teacher-training programs in the United States and
is accredited by the consortium of University and College Intensive English Program (UCIEP).
The School of International Studies has partnerships with more than 35 high schools, universities and businesses worldwide.
Fifteen thousand alumni from more than 40 countries have taken classes from the School of International Studies.
All of the SIS faculty hold advanced degrees in Teaching English as a Second Language and have many years of experience
in classrooms both in the United States and abroad.
The School of International Studies offers three English Language Programs and
five professional programs, including the Master of Arts, for teachers of English as a Second/Foreign Language.
Intensive English Language Program (IEP) has five different levels from
beginner to advanced study. Four, eight, twelve and sixteen-week sessions are offered throughout the year.
There is a limit of 15 students per class. Students are required to submit a financial statement for the full amount
of the program prior to enrollment. Students are not required to submit a secondary school completion certificate.

  Academic
English Program (AEP) is for students that have scored a 420 on the TOEFL test. It is designed for students who need
to improve their English-language skills and plan to continue their study at a college or university in the United States.
The AEP has two levels of study depending on the student's needs and abilities. Students in both Levels I and II receive
college credit for the AEP. Transfer of credits to receiving schools is dependent on the receiving school. Openings are every
August and every January and last for 16 weeks (16 weeks = $6,810 USD). There is also a Summer Academic English Program,
which includes two 6-week semesters during the summer months (May through June and June through August).
The Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language (MATESL)
is a graduate program for people who want to teach English to non-native speakers in the United States or in other countries.
A 550 TOEFL score is required for all applicants. Applicants must have completed a bachelor's degree from a U.S. university
or its equivalent with a 2.0 grade point average. Tuition is $410 per credit hour during Fall 2003 and Spring 2004,
and $345 per credit hour during Summer 2003.
