Nishimachi International School |
Nishimachi International School is a private, nonsectarian, co-educational day school founded in 1949 for
children between the ages of 5 and 15 (K-Grade 9). The school's educational philosophy is rooted in a spirit of internationalism and humanism,
which allows children to learn in an environment accepting of differences. Although the curriculum is taught in English, Nishimachi requires
its 420 students from 26 countries to study the Japanese language daily. The school believes that a second language provides the
opportunity for children to grow beyond a single culture and that education should promote the well-rounded development of individuals
through the cultivation of their intellectual, creative, personal, social, and physical abilities.
 Nishimachi
International School offers a wide range of intercultural activities. Students participate in English and Japanese dramatic productions,
exchanges with Japanese and other international schools, community homestay programs, the arts, publications, field trips, and sports. These, in conjunction with
other activities, ranging from planting rice/digging sweet potatoes to U.N. simulations, allow students to experience a fascinating world outside
the classroom firsthand.
Nishimachi International School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges
and is a member of the Council of International Schools. Graduates from the school go on to
prestigious high schools, including boarding schools, all over the world. |
