Royal Roads University is located
on a spectacular 565-acre ocean-front heritage site near Victoria,
B.C. One of B.C.'s newest universities, Royal Roads was founded
in 1995 to offer innovative programs primarily to professionals
working in the global economy. The university concentrates on its
four founding themes: entrepreneurship and management; leadership
and learning; environmental sustainability; and conflict resolution.
Most programs are at the Master degree level, but Royal Roads also
offers undergraduate completion programs in commerce and science
- as well as an increasing number of graduate diploma, executive
certificate, and professional development programs.
Graduate programs at Royal Roads
University combine short, on-campus residencies of three to five
weeks with Internet-based distance learning. This allows learners
to advance their education with minimal disruption to their careers
or family life, while applying new knowledge and skills immediately
in their work.
Bachelor programs in commerce and
science are offered in a unique "fast-track" format. Admission
is based on two academic years at college or university. Learners
then complete years three and four in an intensive 12-month cycle.
The Bachelor of Commerce program is also available both as a two-year
evening program and as a 2.5-year online program, while the new
Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management is offered online
over 2.5 years.
Royal
Roads University recognizes the value of "real-world learning"
and will offer academic credit for appropriate work experience through
the use of Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) programs.
The highly qualified faculty is recruited
from academic institutions and industry around the world. Because
of the limited enrollment, class sizes are small.
