History
Kunitachi Kids is a preschool and kindergarten for children between one and six
years old. It opened five years ago as the first international school in Kunitachi-shi and currently has approximately 100 students. The school is open
five days a week from 9am to 3pm, and overtime daycare is available until 6pm.
In addition, to provide students with a rich learning environment, there is no
summer holiday or other extended holiday periods.
Ample Sports Facilities
On of the main features of our school is that although it occupies a small
space, we have a variety of sports facilities. On the first floor there is an
artificial grass schoolyard surrounded by netting for playing tennis and soccer,
and outside there is a real pool.
On the second floor we have a room for gymnastics and ballet. Sports isn't only
good for building strong bodies, it also teaches children many things that will
help them later in life such as accepting challenges and the importance of
teamwork. Sports are especially useful when teaching language (English). As they
play and have fun, they learn naturally. Amazingly, children of this age who are
good at sports also tend to excel in other subjects too.
A school in the suburbs with many American students
Our school is 40 minutes from Yokota Air Base. Approximately 30 of our students
come from Yokota, and they, combined with our other foreign students, comprise
30-40% of our student body. Not only for communicating in English, but also to
experience other cultures and develop truly international foundation, our
school's policy is to have at least 1/3 of our students be from outside Japan.
A
diversified curriculum and followup
Aside from our school's slogan being "A fusing of sports and English education,"
another feature of our school is its diversified curriculum. We not only teach
the fundamentals of math, science, environmental education, geography in a fun
way, but also put emphasis on arts and crafts. We use the wood deck area on the
first floor for large art projects. There are also piano and vocal lessons
available to help develop well-rounded students. In addition, we celebrate
American holidays such as Christmas and Halloween, and also Japanese holidays
like Setsubun, Childrens' Day, Tanabata and Yukata Day. There is a Sports Day,
school excursions and overnight trips which make the kids smile and shout with
delight. Every semester we track the students' progress in manners and each
school subject using a system that's second to none.
