Langley-Our Community
 Located
just 45 kilometers east of Vancouver on Canada”Ēs west coast, Langley is the
ideal location for students to improve their English while achieving their
academic goals. Langley is an extremely safe and friendly community with a small
city atmosphere and strong community spirit. The city is well served by a
commercial district with a large shopping mall, theatre complex, and many
recreational and social facilities located throughout the community. With almost
all of our 120,000 residents speaking English as their first language,
international students will have the opportunity to improve their English while
being immersed in Canada culture.
Langley School District
Langley School District is governed by the British Columbia Ministry of
Education. More than 40 schools provide comprehensive education for the 20,000
Canadian students who live in our community. Government certified teachers teach
a complete curriculum in all of the schools. Modern, well-equipped classrooms
and facilities provide stimulating learning environments. High school students
can prepare for university in any field they choose, including sciences,
humanities, technology, mathematics, languages, business, and fine arts. Langley
graduates have attended universities around the world.
The International Student Program- Pathway to the Future
 Our
International Student Program has been welcoming students since 1989, and was
originally established to enable students from all over the world to connect in
friendship and appreciation of different cultures and languages. By providing
students with quality education, strong support, and unique opportunities, we
prepare them to meet the challenges ahead as they move on to college and
university studies.
English Support
English language support is available at all schools in the International
Student Program. Students are assessed upon arrival, and depending on their
abilities and goals, appropriate levels of English language support and academic
instruction are provided. Specialized teachers using effective teaching methods
ensure students acquire the skills and knowledge they need to succeed. Students
take classes with Canadian students from the very beginning of their program,
maximizing their exposure to native English speakers.
Summer English and Cultural Program
 Each
year Langley School District offers exciting short-term English summer programs
during the months of July and August. Programs are open to participants from
different countries. Through intensive English classes, exciting activities and
accommodation with Canadian homestay families, our students enjoy a complete
English speaking Canadian cultural experience. Students can choose from a
variety of programs and start dates.
Homestay
We have been operating our own homestay program since the very beginning of the
International Student Program. Over the years we have gained considerable
experience and expertise, and parents of International Students can be assured
that we do our best to ensure student safety and comfort. Our Homestay
Coordinator carefully screens and selects homes where students are truly
welcomed and included as one of the family. In this family environment students
can comfortably and confidently practice their English and experience another
culture. Students live within walking distances from their schools, or families
provide transportation to and from school. |
