Birmingham
|
Bournville College is situated in an attractive suburb of Birmingham, the Second
City of the United Kingdom, located in the Heart of England at the centre of the
national transport network.
Birmingham is a cosmopolitan city with a multi-national and multi-ethnic
population of which it is rightly proud. The city's roots go back to the 11th
century when it was given its charter as a market, and has been a thriving
commercial and industrial centre ever since. The city's main market, the new
Bullring, continues this rich heritage.
The city offers many attractions:
- Birmingham is home to many international companies.
- Major sports venues in Birmingham include those for
football, tennis, golf, basketball and cricket.
- The city boasts a state of the art International Convention
Centre with Symphony Hall, home of the world famous City of Birmingham
Symphony Orchestra.
- These are many theatres, cinemas, night-clubs and pubs.
- Birmingham also has restaurants to suit every taste and
indeed, is famous for its 'Balti' restaurants and the Arcadian Chinese
Quarter.
- There are modern shopping malls and arcades with a wide
charity of nationally and internationally known shops and stores.
- Birmingham is very green, with many large, landscaped civic
parks.
If you are interested in England's cultural heritage
Birmingham is surrounded by beautiful countryside, with many country parks just
a few miles outside the city. Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace of William
Shakespeare, Warwick Castle and numerous stately homes open to the public and
within easy travelling distance, as in Oxford, with its 'dreaming spires'.
For those fond of walking, climbing and hiking Wales, with its
breathtaking mountain scenery and coastline is just a few hours drive. London is
just 90 minutes away by train.
