St. Croix High School
  NAME:   St. Croix High School
  LOCATION: Minnesota USA
  TYPE OF PROGRAM: High School

St. Croix High School is a college preparation high school with a reputation for being an excellent value encompassed in an extremely friendly and safe environment. While the academic standards are high, St. Croix supports its students through a full ESL program with a full time international advisor to assist with the needs of the international students. Because the school enrollment is 400 students, the school is large enough to offer a wide variety of both curricular offerings and after school activities and still small enough to allow students a chance to participate in activities of their choice.

Location

St. Croix High School is located in West St. Paul, a suburb of the beautiful metropolitan area of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota USA. Our campus of 30 acres is only 20 minutes from the international airport, and 5 minutes from the downtown area of the capitol city of St. Paul.

Campus

St. Croix's 30-acre campus includes our main school building housing classrooms, gymnasium, music rooms, auditorium, weightlifting room, cafeteria/commons, library-media center, computer labs, chapel, and school office. Two dormitory facilities house 97 students and four residence supervisors. Athletic fields, tennis courts, a walking path and a small lake complete our high school campus.

Academics

St. Croix High School offers a college-prep secondary education program. Core curriculum includes required courses that fulfill college requirements along with a range of electives to meet individual interests. Offerings include advanced placement and accelerated courses along with the latest in computer technology. The curriculum includes intermediate and advanced levels of ESL.

The teachers and staff at St. Croix are dedicated to student achievement and over two-thirds hold advanced degrees in their areas of expertise. In addition to classroom responsibilities, all teachers serve as advisors providing additional academic support to each individual student.

Extracurricular activities

All St. Croix students are encouraged to participate in activities outside the classroom. Students participate in athletics to try a new sport, improve their existing skills or compete for a championship at the varsity level. Interscholastic and club athletics include: cross-country, cheerleading, football, soccer, volleyball, hockey, basketball, dance team, wrestling, baseball, swimming, golf, softball, track & field, and tennis.

Many students chose to participate in drama, journalism, speech team, jazz band, select singing groups, math competitions, webmasters club, peer listeners, and several leadership groups.

Accommodations

Our on-campus boarding facilities include double occupancy dorm rooms, a full cafeteria, laundry, computer lab, recreation room, telephones and a professional student life staff. Regular activities are arranged so the students can find a time to relax from studies, have fun, and grow socially as well. The full boarding fee includes all meals.

International Support

A full-time international advisor supports the general needs of the international students to successfully transition into the academic, social and cultural life of St. Croix High School. The advisor maintains regular communication with the students and parents throughout the school year. Guardianship and advisory services are also available. Two levels of ESL classes plus ESL U.S. History and Health classes are provided for the international students' academic needs.

Student Life

The on-campus student residences are fully equipped with double room dormitories, a full cafeteria, laundry, computer lab, telephones and a professional student life staff. Four full-time residence supervisors oversee the dormitories. At least two supervisors are on duty at all times. They also attend to the day-to-day needs of all dorm students. Regularly scheduled meetings, special events and celebrations are all a part of residence life.

Students have opportunities for a variety of experiences in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Professional sports events, theaters, museums, the Mall of America, are just a few of the choices. Within walking distance of the campus are a variety of restaurants and department stores.

Career Choice Assistance

Beginning in grade 9, students are guided along their university and career choices with the assistance of a career counselor. Both instructors and counselors provide guidance and support in completing university applications.

Registration and Admission Requirements

International students may apply for the coming school year when applications are available. Students are accepted on a rolling admissions basis. The deadline for receiving applications is May 1. Students' transcripts must show above average academic ability, and the students must be responsible, honest, cooperative, demonstrate good character, and be respectful of others.
