Barrie Campus

Georgian College, founded in 1967, was established and is regulated through the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities for the Province of Ontario.

The Barrie Campus has 5000 full-time students & 26,000 part-time students.

Our beautiful campus covers an area of 111.5acres (45 hectares), and our many new campus buildings include:
  • state of the art learning facilities at the Centre for Technology Enhanced Leaning with 250 new computers and many comfortable study areas.
  • a 525-bed student residence. Students live in furnished, two bedroom suites complete with kitchen, satellite TV, and internet service.
  • an expanded Student & Athletic Centre complete with two tournament-sized gyms, a huge fitness centre, caf«±, lounge, an outdoor patio and a spa!

The International Centre at Georgian College

Located in the "centre" of the campus, the International Centre assists you with everything from choosing your program...to graduation...and beyond! We can help you with all matters relating to your academic program, visa issues and cross-cultural matters.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

Georgian College offers a quality ESL program for international students whose first language is not English. Instruction is provided for developing speaking, reading, writing and listening skills. There is a computerized language laboratory, for international students only, where students only, where students can practice all English language skills.

Each ESL semester is 7 weeks in length, with a total class time of 168 hours.

A typical week of 24 hours would include:

  • Conversation strategies: 5hours
  • Communicative Grammar:5 hours
  • Language lab/Listening Skills: 5 hours
  • Composition: 3 hours
  • Reading skills: 3 hours
  • Vocabulary: 2 hours
  • Grammar: 1 hour

English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

This program is designed to prepare international students for success in post-secondary program. It provides college-level courses in the 4 skills areas: reading, writing, listening & speaking.

As well, the EAP program includes:
  • An emphasis on study skills needed for college success
  • An introduction to computer skills, library research & online learning

Students who successfully complete the EAP program with minimum average of 65% can be admitted to a Georgian College diploma or degree program without TOEFL or IELTS test scores, providing they meet all other academic requirements.

Scholarships: Scholarships are available for academically strong international students and EAP graduates.
