Coquitlam School District International Education Program |
 The
Coquitlam School District's International
Education Program provides an opportunity
for students outside of Canada to enter our school district where they can learn
English while pursuing academic and career
programs. Students worldwide receive valuable learning experiences by studying
abroad, not only through improving their
English language skills, but also by making lifelong international friends and
absorbing the Canadian culture, all in beautiful British Columbia. The Coquitlam
program fosters the building of friendships between Canadian and international
students and their families through the sharing of experiences and backgrounds.
It further enhances school environments by exploring cultural diversity and
broadening global understanding. This year, our students are attending from
homelands as far away as Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Guatemala,
China, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Macao, Brunei,
Mexico and Chile.
|
Location |
Coquitlam School District is nestled in the mountains
between the Pacific Ocean and the Fraser River, including the cities of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody and the
villages of Anmore and Belcarra. Our scenic location, proximity to Vancouver and Whistler, beautiful new secondary school
facilities, variety of course offerings, high academic standards, and the safety of our community provide a very desirable
location for an international education program. Our location is also close to Simon Fraser University, Douglas College
and the University of British Columbia.

Academic Programs |
The Coquitlam School District welcomes students aged 5-18 in all grades.
We offer language classes, complete academic programming, and a wide range of courses to students from around the world.
We are the third largest district in BC with 33,000 students in over 75 schools.
International students benefit from a fully developed program delivered by B.C. government certified teachers in our new
state-of the art schools with the latest equipment and technology.
Many programs are available for International Students throughout the school year. Full year programs for 10 months with students integrated into
regular Canadian classrooms are offered as well as short term Intensive ESL programs for a short as 1 week at a time.
We offer a Summer ESL/Culture Program during July and August with half day morning classroom time and afternoon cultural
activities to implement their newly acquired English skills. English 9,10 or 11 Preparation classes are also offered
during the summer. 4-week Short term Intensive ESL courses are offered from September to June for Elementary, Middle
and Secondary students.
The provincial curriculum consists of a challenging core of courses: English,
social studies, mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, fine arts, and career and technology studies. In addition, students
may select from a number of electives to create a unique program that meets the requirements of the educational system of the
province of British Columbia. Students who graduate from grade 12 in Coquitlam's public school system are qualified to apply
to all universities, colleges and institutes in Canada and elsewhere.
