About Keiki |
|
We are guided by developmentally
appropriate principles in child development, as specified by the National Association for the Education of Young Children
(NAEYC). The NAEYC is an American organization where the school founders are active members. You will find more information
on NAEYC's website. Following this philosophy, we take the time to understand your child's individual needs
and provide positive environment they deserve.
KEIKI is located in a new building in a residential area of Setagaya-ku, Tokyo. It is a bright, two-story house setting, with large
airy spaces downstairs overlooking a sunny private garden. There are four classrooms upstairs including an up-to-date, fully-equipped
computer room.
There are two different playgrounds within 5 minutes walking distance of the school. The children have time to play in either
park everyday, weather permitting, between snack and lunchtime. We also go to the public library bi-weekly and have the children
exposed to public facilities. In these circumstances, children learn proper social behavior and etiquette and at the same time
acquire a feeling of unity and belonging within their own social group.

Philosophy |
|
It
is our belief that children should be valued as unique individuals.
Children need to develop a sense of responsibility for their own
learning process. What matters most is the process of
experimentation, and we encourage our students to be risk takers,
and not to be afraid of making mistakes. This process should be
meaningful and fun.
We also believe in understanding each child's inner constitution;
which aspects of their character require strengthening, which traits
should be discouraged and what areas of personality should be
nurtured and emphasized. We provide guided opportunities so they can
feel, touch, taste, and explore with their senses as many
experiences as possible, freeing them to grow and develop in a
natural and positive manner. Most importantly we do not believe in
imposing our own beliefs upon them but allowing them to blossom in
their own special way.

Our Parents |
|
The parents' role is extremely
important and plays a vital part in a KEIKI child's world, as
mentioned in our philosophy. KEIKI believes in two main ideas.
First, that school and parents should work in tandem for the common
goal for the child. Second, that there is continuity between what
the child learns at school and at home and that they are of equal
importance. We cannot express enough that we need parents as our
partners to bring out the best in each child.
