Why Choose a Community College?
Almost 50% of all students in higher education in the United States begin their studies at community colleges. Community colleges are a very popular choice because of the specific advantages community colleges offer, including open admission, affordable costs and small class sizes. These features are important in the beginning of your education.

At community college, students enjoy the many benefits that community colleges provide. Class sizes are smaller, tuition is less expensive than at public and far less than most private universities. Many support services are offered to help you succeed in your academics.

Community Colleges offer 2 main programs of study: the University Transfer Degree Programs (Associate in Arts /Associate in Science) to complete the first two years of the four-year bachelors degree; and vocational/technical degree programs (Associate in Applied Science), skills and training for students who do not wish to transfer, but who plan to seek employment in a career after graduation.

We also offer an Intensive English Program to help students gain fluency and direct admission into our degree programs.

"I chose to attend West Hills College because of the small community that the college is located in. I feel very safe in this community and the people are very friendly. The attention that students receive is much better than in a large college. After studying at West Hills College I will like to transfer to a university in California. The small size of the college has allowed me to reach my goals. People are very friendly in Coalinga, and very helpful. I would recommend this college to my friends."

Easy Transfer to Universities
During the first two years of university-level education, all students in the U.S. are required to take two years of 'general education' to give you a broad background in a variety of subjects. Then, in year three and year four, students decide their major and focus on their academic field of study.

Completing an associate's degree at a community college is essentially the same as completing the first two years at any four-year college or university in the U.S. You can earn an associate's degree from a community college and gain easier admission for your third and fourth year, at excellent universities.

Students transfer to 4-year institutions throughout the U.S., but most commonly transfer to institutions within the same state.
