As part of IE Business School's information session, to be held in Tokyo on June 5th 2007, Professor Eduardo Fernandez-Cantelli, Marketing Professor at IE Business School, will be chairing a discussion on the Spanish America's Cup team, Desafio Espaņol, as well as the logistical, and organization processes leading up to the event since the news broke of Valencia's organizing the 32nd Edition of this prestigious world sporting event.

Some knowledge of the America's Cup is, of course, necessary to this topic's understanding.

This case-study will be approached from a Marketing perspective, with particular attention paid to the viability of the project; in particular there is a great deal of debate as to whether or not Desafio Espaņol should continue, and if so, under what conditions. Above all, Mr Cantelli-Fernandez will pay close attention to the brand identity of the Spanish team, and its relationship with sponsors and public institutions.
