TELL Exceptional Parenting Program: Transition planning

Dates : April 23, 2010
Time : 10:00 - 12:30
Venue : TELL Conference Room, 5-4-22 Minami Aoyama Minato-ku, Tokyo 107-0062
Details :

Presented by
Richard Chamovitz, attorney and advocate for people with disabilities and their families

Before relocating to Tokyo with his family, Richard Chamovitz helped children with special needs to obtain appropriate special education and support services. He was appointed to the Governor of Pennsylvania¡Çs Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities, served on various boards of non-profit organizations, and as an advisor to legislators.

Some of his activities in Tokyo include being a member of the Advisory Committee for the Development of an Internationalization Strategic Plan and the Foreign Resident Discussion Group, both in Minato-ku, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Secondary School, a school that serves students with learning differences.

This interactive presentation will focus on the issues parents must address with their child, as a team, in preparing for life after high school. Although we will briefly discuss helping our children with transitions throughout life, we will focus on preparing them for further education, employment and independent living. We will also explore the need for parents to prepare themselves for this and other transitions. You will receive checklists and other information to further our discourse and assist you beyond this presentation.

Admission: Donations accepted
